Widespread storms to soak parts of Kansas City, with heavy rain in some areas
Don’t leave that umbrella behind. The Kansas City area is set for a good soaking on Tuesday, with widespread showers and thunderstorms moving through.
The National Weather Service says to expect heavy rain and some gusty winds as the storms roll in.
While the threat of severe weather is low, some neighborhoods could see quick bursts of rain, with totals reaching up to two inches by the end of the day. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible.
“Heavy rainfall is expected along and south of the Missouri River, where 1 to 2 inches of rain is forecast,” the weather service said. “Minor flooding cannot be ruled out.”
Chances for scattered showers and storms will continue overnight and through Wednesday.
With the cloudy and stormy weather, temperatures are expected to remain in the low 70s. For comparison, Kansas City typically sees temperatures around 77 degrees this time of year.
The slow-moving storm system bringing rounds of rain is expected to slide east of the area on Wednesday night, allowing dry weather to return on Thursday. Temperatures will also return to near normal, climbing to around 76 degrees on Thursday.
Dry and sunny weather will continue into the weekend, with temperatures in the low 80s on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
