After six summer-like days, Kansas City to get a break — and some rain

The streak of summer-like heat is forecast to continue for at least one more day in Kansas City, just before a new weather system brings showers, storms and a much-needed cool-down later in the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to climb to around 90, which would be the sixth day in a row with highs at or above 90 degrees in the metro. That’s about 10 degrees warmer than usual. The metro typically sees temperatures around 79 degrees this time of year.

There is a slight chance for isolated to scattered showers and storms on Tuesday from morning into the afternoon, the weather service said. No severe weather expected, but a few stronger wind gusts could occur as the storms weaken.

A new weather system known as a “closed upper low” will approach from the west and arrive on Wednesday, bringing increased chances for rain in the morning and afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-80s to low 90s; however, clouds and rain could keep things a bit cooler than forecast, the weather service said.

The better chances for showers and storms are expected on Thursday and Friday as the weather system pushes a cold front into the area, the weather service said.

This front will bring cooler, near-normal temperatures for the remainder of the week. In the metro, high temperatures should reach 83 degrees on Thursday and 80 degrees on Friday. Areas north of Kansas City will be cooler since the cold front will pass through those locations first.

There will be daily chances for showers and storms through the weekend, with high temperatures remaining in the upper 70s to mid-80s into early next week, the weather service said.
