A brief cooldown, then this: What’s in store for KC’s weekend weather

The metro’s brief escape from summer’s grip will be short-lived, as punishing heat and sticky humidity are set to stage a comeback in Kansas City.

For now, though, Wednesday offers a pleasant reprieve, with temperatures expected to reach the mid-to-upper 80s — right in line with Kansas City’s typical mid-August average of 88 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Some lower humidity will add to the comfort, but the relief won’t last long.

Temperatures will be just as nice on Thursday.

But beginning Friday, the heat and humidity will start to build back into the area for the weekend. Temperatures on Friday through Sunday will be in the low to mid-90s with heat index values in the 100-105 degree range, the weather service said.

The weather service said it might need to issue a heat advisory for those days.

The weekend is also expected to remain dry.

Thunderstorms possible early next week in KC

Next week brings a change, as a weather disturbance on Monday is expected to push into the area, bringing the metro its next chance of rain and thunderstorms, the weather service said.

Some of these storms will need to be watched for possible severe weather.

The active weather pattern is expected to linger through midweek, with storms possible and temperatures returning to near normal, with highs in the mid-80s to lower 90s.
