With storms already firing up over eastern Kansas and northwest Missouri, the weather service has also issued a severe thunderstorm watch for counties north of the immediate metro area in northeast Kansas and northern Missouri.
The best chance for severe weather will be between 3 and 9 p.m.
“A few strong storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts will be possible,” the weather service said.
In a timeline released on X, formerly Twitter, the weather service indicated the storms should be in the Kansas City area between 10 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday.
