Evergy crews continue to restore power after severe storms hit Kansas City
Power is being restored for thousands of people in the Kansas City area after severe storms brought damaging winds, heavy rain and hail to the region Monday.
Crews worked on repairs to power lines and other equipment overnight. Evergy, a company that provides utilities to much of the Kansas City area, said about 46% of customers affected by the storms had their power restored by 8:15 p.m. Monday.
“The worst damage was in the Kansas City metro area, where damage from strong winds included downed wires and broken poles,” Evergy said in a statement on its website.
As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, Evergy’s outage map shows just 2,334 people (0.7% of customers) in Jackson County are still without power.
In Johnson County, 3,146 people are without power, or 1.08% of customers in the county.
A tornado watch was issued for the Kansas City metro area, which expired at 11 p.m. Monday. The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings as heavy rainfall pummeled Kansas City.
The storms brought 80 mile per hour winds to Johnson County, the National Weather Service said on X Monday.
As crews continue to restore power, customers can report an outage on Evergy’s website.
