Rain, thunderstorms to sweep through Kansas City. Here’s when to grab umbrella
Most of the Kansas City area will start on the dry and mild side Wednesday, but chances for rain showers and thunderstorms will increase later in the day, according to the National Weather Service.
A wave of storms has already arrived in the Kansas City region, but the storms are struggling to produce anything more than scattered light rain, the weather service said. The storms are eroding as they push northward.
The weather service said there will be a break in storm activity later in the morning, but by mid- to late afternoon, another wave of showers and thunderstorms is expected to push through.
“Best chances remain around and south of I-70, tapering off as you work northward,” the weather service said. “Areas that do experience a thunderstorm may see rain amounts around or a bit more than an inch.”
Strong to severe thunderstorms are not expected. Rain chances continue through Thursday, with showers beginning to wind down by the evening, the weather service said.
Locations south of U.S. 50 highway could see around 1.25 inches of rain. Meanwhile, areas north of Interstate 70 expect less than a .10 inch.
Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-60s on Wednesday and around 70 degrees on Thursday.
Drier weather expected for weekend, Mother’s Day
A high-pressure system will bring dry weather on Friday, allowing the metro to begin to dry out. Temperatures will climb to 72 degrees, the average temperature for this time of year.
Warmer weather is expected over the weekend, with temperatures climbing to the mid-70s on Saturday and the upper 70s on Sunday.
Sunny weather is expected for Mother’s Day on Sunday.
