Showers, thunderstorms possible in Missouri. Will Kansas City see rain?

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible in the Kansas City area on Thursday, but the metro will likely stay dry.

Areas east of U.S. 65 in central Missouri have a 20-40% chance of seeing the storms, according to the National Weather Service. Any storms that develop are not expected to be hazardous.

The chance of rain in the metro is much lower, around 16%. The weather will be breezy, with winds gusting between 25 and 35 mph.

Temperatures are expected to climb to around 70 degrees. Kansas City’s temperature is typically 64 degrees this time of year.

“The gusty winds with dew points in the mid-30s across the western (Kansas City forecast area) will yield relative humidity values of 25-30%, which will lead to elevated fire weather concern over eastern Kansas and western Missouri,” the weather service said.

Showers may linger into the evening over central Missouri.

Dry, warmer weather in Kansas City’s forecast

The weather service said an area of high pressure will build into the area overnight Thursday into Friday, leading to drier weather.

Although Friday’s temperatures will be closer to normal, the weather service said that a warm-up is expected for the weekend.

Temperatures will rebound to around 72 degrees on Saturday and soar into the mid-80s on Sunday.

A cold front is expected to move through the area Sunday night. Cooler air will filter into the area, returning temperatures closer to normal on Monday and Tuesday.

There is a chance for thunderstorms Wednesday night, according to the weather service. Temperatures ahead of the storm system will be in the mid-60s to lower 70s.
