Warm Saturday expected before storms head for KC. Hail, damaging winds possible
Severe thunderstorms are possible overnight Saturday around Kansas City, with the greatest threat from the storms being damaging winds and large hail, according to the National Weather Service.
Most of the metro will remain dry throughout the day Saturday and despite mostly cloudy skies, temperatures will be warm — in the high 70s to low 80s, the weather service predicts. The risk of storms comes overnight, according to the forecast, when a cold front will move in during the evening.
After midnight, the storms are expected to weaken, but remain possible as the system moves east, meteorologists said in a Saturday morning weather discussion.
Kansas City could get between a quarter and half of an inch of rain Saturday, but localized heavy rain from storms could bring more, according to the forecast.
On Sunday, showers and thunderstorms are likely mainly before 7 a.m. The high temperature Sunday will hover in the mid 50s for a mostly cloudy day after the cold front settles in following the storms. The Sunday night low is forecast near 38 degrees.
Monday will be mostly sunny with a high near 55 degrees, the weather service predicts.
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the Kansas City area as meteorologists monitor the weekend storms and another system that could bring severe weather by the middle of next week.
