Kansas Citians can expect a somewhat cloudy day Saturday with high temperatures in the mid 60’s before overnight thunderstorms could bring damaging hail and winds to the area, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

A threat of widespread thunderstorms are possible, mostly after midnight and into early Sunday morning, the weather service forecast shows.

Some weather models show a few storms could be strong to marginally severe, meteorologists said in a Saturday forecast discussion.

Scattered storms are expected to develop mostly south of Interstate 70 after midnight. The chance for precipitation is hovering around 60% as of Saturday morning and rainfall amounts are expected to reach between a tenth and quarter of an inch, the forecast shows.

Areas with stronger storms could get more rain than initially forecast, according to the weather service.

Before the storms begin, a hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the Kansas City metro due to fire weather conditions continue. Dry elements and gusty winds mean fires could spread rapidly, the weather service said.

Kansas City’s weekend forecast

Saturday’s high temperature is expected to be near 68 degrees and the overnight low is expected to be around 51 degrees. Wind gusts could reach around 25 miles per hour, but stronger winds are possible during the overnight storms.

Sunday, Kansas City could see showers and thunderstorms mainly before 7 a.m., the forecast shows. It’ll be mostly cloudy through Sunday morning, then skies will gradually clear bringing a high temperature for the day near 64 degrees. Winds could gust as high as 29 miles per hour Sunday.

The overnight low Sunday is expected to be around 40 degrees, the forecast shows.

Then Monday, temperatures remain warmer as the day is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 64. The Monday night low could be around 47 degrees, the forecast shows.
