It feels like spring! But when could KC see more strong winds and stormy weather?

The weather will be unseasonably warm in Kansas City this week, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will be in the 70s for most of the week. The metro’s average temperature for this time of year is the low 50s.

Folks in Kansas City will get a taste of spring-like weather, as temperatures this week will be more like those in May rather than March.

The unseasonably warm weather is expected to persist for most of the week, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s in the metro, according to the National Weather Service. Kansas City’s temperatures typically are in the low 50s this time of year.

Temperatures will climb to near 80 degrees on Monday before dipping to the upper 60s on Tuesday. Temperatures for the rest of the work week will be in the 70s, climbing to near 80 degrees on Friday.

The warm weather, with winds gusting up to 35 mph and relative humidity dropping below 30%, has prompted the weather service to issue a red flag warning for the entire Kansas City region.

“Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly,” the weather service said. “Outdoor burning is not recommended.”

Strong storm system to move through KC area

The weather service said a strong weather system moves in Friday, bringing the chance for rain showers and thunderstorms.

There is a conditional threat of severe weather. The weather service said there are notable discrepancies in the forecast models, making it difficult to predict the exact outcomes of severe weather.

Rain showers are possible, even if stronger thunderstorms do not materialize, the weather service said.

If dry air reduces the chances for thunderstorms and rain showers, non-thunderstorm winds will be gusty Friday night through most of Saturday.

“We can easily see wind gusts in excess of 40 mph,” the weather service said.

The weather service said the north side of the storm system will have a lot of cold air with it and could produce wintry precipitation from Nebraska into the Northern Plains of the Dakotas.

“This colder air may clip our far northern counties at some point on Saturday, resulting in light snowfall of some kind,” the weather service said. The chance of snow is low.

Cooler weather is expected Saturday afternoon, with the temperature returning to near average. The temperature on Sunday will be near 60 degrees.
