Warm, windy weather to bring elevated fire risk to Kansas City. What’s in the forecast?
Early spring-like weather is expected in Kansas City this week, but the warmer temperatures raise some concerns, according to the National Weather Service.
On Monday, temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-40s in the metro, typically what Kansas City sees in late February and early March. Usually, Kansas City sees temperatures around 39 degrees this time of year.
It will also be windy, with sustained winds up to 14 mph and gusts as high as 26 mph. The weather service said the relative humidity is expected to drop to around 43%.
The dry and breezy afternoon will lead to elevated fire weather conditions across northern and northeastern Missouri, including the metro area, the weather service said. Meanwhile, snow cover over far northern and much of northeastern Missouri has melted.
“Those areas will see the greatest potential for elevated fire weather conditions as the lack of snow cover overlaps with the strongest winds and lowest forecast humidity values,” the weather service said.
Warmer days ahead in KC’s forecast
“The warming trend will continue into Tuesday where it looks like we could add 5 degrees onto the highs from the previous day,” the weather service said.
Temperatures in the metro are expected to climb into the low 50s. On Wednesday, another high pressure area may move into the region, cooling temperatures a degree or two. However, temperatures will still be around 10 degrees above average.
Slightly cooler weather is expected Thursday, reaching the upper 40s.
Rain, thunderstorms return to the area
The chance for precipitation returns Thursday, but temperatures will favor rain, with only slight chances for wintry precipitation over far northern Missouri, the weather service said.
By Thursday evening, widespread rain is likely.
“There will be a small chance for thunderstorms” overnight into Friday morning, the weather service said.
Temperatures will be in the mid-40s on Friday and Saturday and the mid-50s on Sunday.
