Wind chills plunge as cold front pushes through. When will warmer weather arrive in KC?
Winter’s brutal cold lingers in the Kansas City area Thursday, as wind chills plunged to the single digits, if not below zero, due to below-freezing temperatures and breezing weather, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures at Kansas City International Airport fell to 19 degrees shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday. With winds out of the north at 17 mph, wind chills dove to 5 degrees, the weather service reported.
The weather service said in its forecast discussion that temperatures will not rebound much, as a burst of cold air is expected to filter in behind a cold front pushing through the area.
The temperature is expected to climb to 24 degrees in the afternoon and plummet to around 11 degrees overnight. Typically, Kansas City sees temperatures of 38 degrees during the day and 19 degrees overnight this time of year.

The warmer weather is expected to continue into the weekend, with the temperatures reaching 39 degrees on Saturday and 34 degrees on Sunday.

At the 5:30 p.m. kick-off, temperatures are expected to be around freezing, with a light wind and wind chills in the upper 20s. Temperatures are expected to dip slightly during the game, falling to around 28 degrees by 10 p.m.
Will Kansas City see 50-degree weather?
The recent cold weather will be history by the start of next week as even warmer conditions are expected.
Temperatures are expected to be 44 degrees Monday, 48 degrees Tuesday and 49 degrees Wednesday.
The weather service said the next chance of rain might come Wednesday night or later, depending on how a weather system moves.
