It will be a windy day in Kansas City. Then the coldest weather of the season moves in
Dry and windy weather is expected across the Kansas City area on Wednesday as the coldest temperatures so far this season move into the metro for a brief stay, according to the National Weather Service.
“Welp, it’s going to be a windy one today,” the weather service said on social media.
The areas that will see the strongest winds are north of the Kansas City metro and along Interstate 70. The weather service said wind gusts around 45 mph are possible.
A wind advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in portions of northeast Kansas and north-central and northwest Missouri. According to the weather service, sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts up to 50 mph. Those traveling to Nebraska and Iowa should also expect strong winds.
In the Kansas City area, winds will be sustained at 20 to 25 mph, with gusts around 40 mph.
Afternoon temperatures will be around 50 degrees, which is typical for this time of year in Kansas City.
Weather to have chilling effect on KC
“The forecast looks quiet beyond (Wednesday) with dry weather forecast through early next week,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion. “Temperatures will trend below normal Thursday and Friday as colder air moves into the region.”
The weather service said overnight lows are expected to plunge into the mid- and upper 20s on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings. Daytime temperatures will be in the low to mid-40s.
The cold temperatures will be short-lived as south winds will bring a warm-up for the weekend.
Temperatures will return to the mid-50s on Saturday and the low 60s on Sunday, pushing more than 15 degrees above average.
Early Thanksgiving week forecast shows cold returns
The weather service said that the next cold front will likely sweep through Sunday evening, knocking temperatures back to normal.
Daytime temperatures will be in the upper 40s on Monday and then the low 40s on Tuesday. Overnight temperatures will be around 30 degrees.
“There is a small chance for precipitation by the middle of next week,” the weather service said. The chances of precipitation greater than .01 of an inch are small and generally less than 25% on Tuesday into Wednesday, the weather service said.
