Few rain showers to linger as fall chill settles across the Kansas City forecast area
A few hit-or-miss rain showers are expected to linger around the Kansas City area as cooler temperatures provide a fall chill, the National Weather Service said.
A line of showers developed along the remnants of a cold front that dipped into southern Missouri. As a result, isolated rain showers were moving across the metro area Monday morning. The weather service said the showers will mosey across central and northern Missouri.
“Expect mainly light and scattered showers east of I-35 (Interstate 35,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion.
Cooler temperatures this week in KC
The cold front also brought cooler weather to the area this week, the weather service said. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-60s to low 70s during the day, dropping to the 50s at night.
Temperatures in the metro are expected to be in the low 60s on Monday, the low 70s on Tuesday, and the mid 70s on Wednesday. Typically, temperatures in Kansas City are in the mid 70s this time of year.
The weather service said a few light showers will be possible across northwest and west Missouri on Tuesday.
“Dry and pleasant conditions look to prevail through mid-week before widespread rain chances return late week,” the weather service said.
Rain returns for second half of week
A tropical system will approach from the Gulf of Mexico by Thursday and come ashore along the Georgia and Alabama border.
The weather service said this will bring another flow of moisture, increasing cloud coverage and causing additional rounds of scattered showers across the region through the weekend.
“The tropical system is anticipated to linger for a few days before being pushed off to the northeast,” the weather service said.
That could lead to another soggy weekend as the chance for rain persists from Thursday night into Sunday. The chances of rain will range from 30 to 50% over those days.
