Last week of summer is expected to be hot. Will the start of fall bring relief to KC?
The weather should be rather quiet this week in Kansas City, and while there are minor chances for rain midweek, the better chances for rain and thunderstorms are expected this weekend, the National Weather Service said.
Temperatures will start the week above average, climbing to the mid- to upper 80s. In the metro area, temperatures will be closer to 90 degrees. The temperature in Kansas City typically is around 80 degrees this time of year.
There is a low chance of isolated showers or storms, primarily east of U.S. 65 highway. The weather service said “any storms that do develop will be fairly isolated and short-lived.”
Above-average temperatures are expected to continue through the work week, rising into the 90s on Thursday and Friday.
Mid-week storm in Kansas City’s weather forecast?
A cold front will try to push into the area, bringing the chance for rain showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday.
Forecast models continue to lower the chance of rain, which is now only 15 to 25% over eastern Kansas and western Missouri.
Rain “is looking less likely during the midweek period” as the forecast evolves, the weather service said.
Better chances for rain during weekend
A shift in the weather pattern will arrive this week, starting Friday night with the chances for widespread storms increasing to 40 to 60%.
Storm chances will continue Saturday and Sunday, leading to what the weather service predicts will be an “unsettled weekend.”
No severe storms are expected.
The storms will bring cooler weather. Temperatures will be in the upper 70s to mid-80s on Saturday and the lower 70s to lower 80s on Sunday after the cold front moves through. In the metro, temperatures will be near 81 degrees on Saturday and around 76 on Sunday.
The cooler temperatures come just in time for the start of fall on Sunday.
