The weather will be a tad warmer and humid in Kansas City in the next couple of days before a cold front pushes through the area, bringing the chance of storms, the National Weather Service said.

The weather service said in its forecast discussion that Wednesday’s weather would slightly differ from Tuesday’s when temperatures reached 82 degrees. Southerly winds will push temperatures higher.

“Today that should not amount to much more than a couple degrees warmer, low to mid-80s for most vs. the upper 70s to mid-80s yesterday,” the weather service said. “Dew points will remain repressed in the 50s, keeping the comfort level very high.”

By Thursday, when the Chiefs, the back-to-back reigning Super Bowl champs, face the Ravens in their season opener, temperatures will climb above average, reaching 90 degrees.

The weather will be more humid, with dew points in the mid- and upper 60s. In the summertime, when dew points rise above 65 degrees, there’s a lot of moisture in the air and the heat becomes oppressive.

Weather forecast for Chiefs vs. Ravens

A cold front is expected to approach from the northwest, enter Missouri by the afternoon, and slowly move across the area during the evening and overnight.

There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms beginning in the midday and continuing overnight. The weather service said the chance of rain is up to 30% across the north and central portions of the Kansas City forecast area.

The showers and thunderstorms that develop are expected to be light and “generic in nature,” the weather service said. No severe weather is expected.

The National Weather Service predicts that temperatures will be around 80 degrees at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, when the Chiefs and Ravens kick off the NFL season at Arrowhead Stadium. The chance of rain at game time is about 20%.

Fall-like weather for weekend

The weather service said cooler and drier weather will move into the Kansas City area Friday, leading to temperatures that will feel more like early October.

Expect temperatures to be well below average, reaching only the 70s on Friday and the upper 60s to mid-70s on Saturday. Temperatures will rebound a few degrees on Sunday.

“All in all, it should be a great weekend for any outdoor activities or plans,” the weather service said.

At the start of the new work week, temperatures will return to the 80s across the region. Mostly quiet weather is also expected.
