Storms with strong winds expected to pop up in KC. When will scorching heat roll in?
Showers and thunderstorms will likely pop up across the Kansas City area Wednesday as the metro begins to see hot and humid weather build in the area, according to the National Weather Service.
The skies will be sunny, allowing temperatures to soar to around 90 degrees, which is near normal for this time of year. Typically, Kansas City sees temperatures in the upper 80s in early to mid-July.
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop north of the Kansas City area in the afternoon and gradually head to the south and southeast into the evening, the weather service said in its forecast discussion.
The weather service said a few strong storms will be possible, with gusty winds and small hail as the main threats.
Similar weather is expected Thursday, with temperatures climbing to around 90 degrees and the possibility of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, although rain chances are lower.
Sweltering weather arrives this weekend
By Friday, Kansas City will experience its next round of hot and humid weather. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 90s, and the heat index, a measurement of how hot it feels when humidity is factored in, will be in the upper 90s.
The heat continues to build into Saturday, with temperatures expected to be in the mid-90s and the heat index near 100 degrees.
“Forecast temperatures remain quite hot (mid to upper 90s by Sunday), with heat indices easily exceeding 100 Sunday and Monday,” the weather service said.
The forecast is uncertain, but Tuesday should also be a scorcher, with temperatures in the upper 90s and the heat index over 100 degrees.
“There are tell-tale signs that this next round of heat may not last too long into next week,” the weather service said.
