Kansas City area schools, orgs announce closures, early dismissals because of winter storm
As a winter storm rolls through the Kansas City metro area bringing snowfall and strong winds Monday and Tuesday, some districts, businesses and other organizations have announced closures or early dismissals.
The Star will keep track of schedule changes in the list below:
- Blue Valley School District - Schools will be closed Tuesday.
- Bonner Springs Unified School District - After school activities and athletics canceled Monday. Schools will be closed Tuesday.
- De Soto School District - Schools will be closed Tuesday.
- Excelsior Springs District 40 - Three hour early dismissal Monday. No evening activities. On Tuesday, students will learn remotely.
- Ft. Leavenworth USD 207 - Schools closed Monday.
- Gardner Edgerton School District - Schools closed Tuesday.
- Grain Valley School District - Schools are closed Tuesday.
- Hickman Mills C-1 School District - After-school activities and facility rentals canceled Monday. The cancellations don’t affect students attending LINC after school. Virtual learning day Tuesday.
- Independence School District - Schools will be closed Tuesday.
- Jackson County Circuit Court - The courthouse will be closed to business and in-person hearings Tuesday.
- Kansas City City Hall - Closed Tuesday with staff working remotely. Public meetings will likely move to remote only.
- Kansas City Public Schools - Schools closed Tuesday.
- Kansas City trash collection - Trash pickup will operate on a holiday schedule. If your trash is normally collected on Tuesdays, it will be picked up on Wednesday and so on through the remainder of the week.
- Kansas City, Kansas Municipal Court - Municipal court will be closed on Tuesday. Scheduled hearings will be continued and those with hearings will receive a letter by mail notifying them of their new court date.
- Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools - All school campuses and offices will be closed Tuesday.
- Kansas City Public Library - All locations closed Tuesday.
- KCK Public Library - All branches will be closed Tuesday.
- Kansas City, Missouri Health Department - Closed Tuesday. Monthly pop-up pantry and COVID, flu and RSV testing canceled.
- Leavenworth Unified School District - After-school events and activities canceled Monday. Board of Education meeting rescheduled to Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.
- Liberty Public Schools - Schools closed Tuesday.
- North Kansas City School District - Schools will be closed Tuesday.
- North Platte R-1 School District - Schools closed Monday and Tuesday.
- Olathe Public Schools - After-school activities, athletics and facility rentals canceled Monday. Schools closed Tuesday.
- Park Hill School District - Schools will be closed and students will learn remotely.
- Park University - All Kansas City area campuses closed Tuesday.
- Piper USD 203 - School will end as scheduled, but after-school activities and evening practices are canceled.
- Platte County R-3 School District - Schools closed Tuesday.
- Raymore-Peculiar School District - School buildings will be closed Tuesday and students will participate in virtual instruction.
- Raytown Schools - After-school activities and practices canceled Monday. On Tuesday, school buildings will be closed and students will learn remotely.
- Shawnee County state office buildings - Close at 3 p.m. Monday and remain closed Tuesday. State employees in executive branch agencies under the governor’s authority will work remotely Tuesday.
- Shawnee Mission School District - After-school activities canceled Monday. Board of Education meeting will proceed as scheduled.
- Spring Hill School District - Schools closed Tuesday.
Truman Library - Closed Tuesday.
- Unified Government - Offices will be closed to the public on Tuesday.
- University of Saint Mary - Closed Tuesday. Classes will be held remotely.
- Wyandotte County District Court - Court will be closed on Tuesday.
