Sunny skies expected Thanksgiving Day in KC; chance of post-holiday snow north of metro
Sunny skies and near normal conditions are expected across the Kansas City area this Thanksgiving, as a post-holiday storm could bring rain to the metro and maybe some light snow to northern Missouri, the National Weather Service said.
Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 40s on Wednesday and around 50 degrees on Thanksgiving Day, the weather service said. Typically, temperatures climb to 51 degrees this time of year in Kansas City.
Colder air, however, will move into the area after the holiday, sending temperatures tumbling. By Friday morning, temperatures will dip into the upper 20s, the weather service said.
Conditions will remain chilly, with daytime temperatures climbing into the upper 30s on Friday. Temperatures will only be a degree or two warmer on Saturday and Sunday.
A fast moving storm system is expected to bring the chance of rain Saturday night, which could transition over to a rain-snow mix through midnight, the weather service said in its forecast discussion. The light wintry mix is expected to have minimal impacts.
In the Kansas City area, any snow will likely be less than .1 of an inch, if it’s measurable. Areas north of St. Joseph, where colder air is expected, light snow will be the primary type of precipitation through predawn Sunday. Less than .5 of an inch of snow is likely, the weather service said.
Below normal conditions are expected to continue into next week. Daytime temperatures will be in the lower to mid-40s with nighttime temperatures in the mid-20s Monday through Wednesday, the weather service said.
