Halloween’s bone-chilling weather in Kansas City area will be no treat. Is warm-up coming?
Hard freezes and record cold temperatures will start the week in Kansas City, leading to a cold and breezy Halloween evening, according to the National Weather Service.
“It’s a cold start to your Monday with temperatures in the mid to upper 20s for most locations,” the National Weather Service in Kansas City said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The morning low so far at KCI is 25 degrees, which is the coldest temperature since March 19th.”
Daytime conditions are expected to be 20 degrees below normal on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures reaching the low 40s on Monday and the upper 30s on Tuesday. Usually, Kansas City reaches the low-60s this time of year.
For Halloween evening, temperatures are expected to begin in the mid-30s about 6 p.m. and drop to around 30 degrees by 9 p.m. Winds will be around 20 mph, which will create wind chills of the low to mid-20s.
Hard freezes are expected Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. The coldest temperatures are expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, bringing the possibility of record low temperatures for that day.
Temperatures on Wednesday morning are expected to be 20 degrees at Kansas City International Airport (MCI), which will tie the record low temperature for that day set in 1991, according to the weather service.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph and Sedalia could possible tumble to 18 degrees, breaking a record of 20 degrees set in 2014 in both cities. And Kirksville is expected to fall to 16 degrees, breaking a record of 19 degrees set in 1954, according to the weather service.
A warming trend is expected with temperatures climbing into the upper 40s on Wednesday and mid-50s on Thursday, returning to the low to mid-60s by Friday and continuing into the weekend.
