The work week is expected to get off to a quiet, fall-like start in the Kansas City area, but storms are likely to pop up later this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunny conditions are expected in the metro area on Monday with temperatures likely to climb to around 70 degrees, which is typical for this time of year in Kansas City. Clear skies will allow overnight temps to drop into the mid-40s, which is just a few degrees below normal.

Similar conditions are expected on Tuesday, which will see temperatures climb into the mid-70s.

There is a change coming for the second half of the week, which will have multiple chances for showers and thunderstorms, according to the weather service.

Showers and thunderstorms will be likely Wednesday, with a possibility of strong storms in the afternoon and evening. Far northwest Missouri has the greater chance of seeing the stronger storms, which could produce quarter-sized hailed and gusty winds, the weather service said.

In the Kansas City metro, the storms could arrive overnight Tuesday. There’s a 50% chance of precipitation after 10 p.m.

On Wednesday, there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m. The chance of precipitation is 20%. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s, according to the weather service.

Temperatures will be in the upper 70s on Thursday. Strong storms will be possible again in the afternoon and overnight in northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. In the Kansas City metro, there is a chance of rain showers between 1 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday. The chance of precipitation is 30% during the day, increasing to 70% overnight Thursday.

Large hail and damaging winds will be possible with the stronger storms.

Cooler conditions are expected to return for the weekend, with temperatures in the mid- to upper 50s on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, according to the weather service.
