Hazy skies, normal temps expected in KC. Here’s weather conditions for Chiefs-Lions game
It won’t be crisp, fall-like temperatures, but weather conditions for the NFL season opening game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night are looking to be near ideal, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.
Widespread hazy skies and filtered sunshine are expected across the Kansas City area on Thursday due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Temperatures are expected to be near normal in the metro on Thursday, which is typically the lower 80s this time of year.
When the parking lots at Arrowhead Stadium open at 3 p.m., temperatures are expected to be around 83 degrees. They are expected to rise a few degrees into the mid-80s before dipping back down to around 82 degrees by kickoff around 7:20 p.m., the weather service said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Dry conditions will gradually cool throughout the game with temperatures dipping to the low 70s by 11 p.m. Winds are expected to be breezy, remaining about 5 mph.
A disturbance in the atmosphere could lead to the development of early morning showers Friday. Air quality will continue to be a concern through the end of the week, the weather service said.
Temperatures on Friday, Saturday and Sunday are expected to be in the low to mid-80s.
Cooler temperatures and chances of rain are expected next week, according to the weather service.
