Heat returns Labor Day weekend in Kansas City. Here’s forecast for summer’s last hurrah
People planning their last big family gathering, beach outing or barbecue of the summer shouldn’t be disappointed with the weather this Labor Day weekend in Kansas City.
Although it will be hot, dry and sunny conditions are expected for most of the holiday weekend, which traditionally marks the end of summer, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the lower to mid-90s each day over the weekend, beginning on Saturday. The drier air will keep heat index values between 95 to 100 degrees, the weather service said. Overnight temperatures will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
“Although dangerous heat concerns are not expected for the holiday weekend due to drier air mass in place, still take precautions such as staying hydrated if you plan on spending extended period outside this weekend,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion.
There is some uncertainty in the forecast for late Monday. While conditions are expected to remain dry, there is a chance rain could develop.
For those headed to the Lake of the Ozarks, sunny conditions are also expected with temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s over the weekend.
Heading into the holiday weekend, conditions will be near normal on Thursday and Friday, with temperatures in the middle to upper 80s. Temperatures typically are in the mid-80s for this time of year in Kansas City.
Looking into next week, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday into Wednesday. Above normal temperatures could remain in place through next week. Heat index values are expected to hover around 100 degrees.
