Note: The The National Weather Service on Tuesday afternoon update when overnight strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to arrive in the Kansas City area. Here’s a link to the story with the latest information on the timing of the storms.

Quiet and normal weather conditions are expected in the Kansas City area Tuesday, but consider it the calm before the storm.

Cloudy skies will gradually become mostly sunny during the day, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City. Temperatures will likely climb only to the mid-80s, which is just a few degrees shy of what is typical for this time of year in Kansas City.

“With dew points still in the middle 60s, it should be fairly comfortable, especially given last week at this time,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion.

Overnight, thunderstorms are expected to move into eastern and western Missouri. Some of the storms could be strong to severe with the primary hazards being gusty winds of 60 mph and heavy rains, the weather service said on X, which is formerly known as Twitter.

Heavy rains could lead to flooding in isolated areas, especial those affected by recent heavy rains.

The strongest storms are expected between and 3 and 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Once the storms have passed, the metro area will be dry for a couple days with near normal temperatures, the weather service said. The next chance for showers and thunderstorms coming Friday night.

Off and on chances for thunderstorms will continue through the weekend.
