Weather service warns of ‘dangerous heat’ as Kansas City braces for triple-digit temps
Sunday afternoon’s high temperatures in the low 90s may be the last opportunity for “cooler” weather in Kansas City for the next several days.
The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook beginning Monday for the Kansas City region as “dangerous heat” moves into the region.
The forecast includes high temperatures in the upper 90s through Tuesday and in the 100s the second half of the week. The heat index — how hot it feels outside — is expected to reach triple digits nearly every day for the next week, according to the weather service.
Dusk and dawn won’t provide much relief, with low temperatures only expected to drop to about 80 degrees.
“Temperatures start climbing as dangerously hot conditions gradually move into the region. Heat index values crest 100°F Tuesday with nighttime lows this week in the 70s to near 80°F,” the weather service tweeted.
While predicted temperatures will fluctuate, the weather service is currently estimating the high temperatures will remain in the upper 90s or low 100s through at least Aug. 1.
The weather service is urging people to plan accordingly.
They recommend those who plan to be outside stay hydrated, wear loose-fitting clothing and take frequent breaks in the shade or in the air-conditioning.
It’s also advised to check in on family members, friends and neighbors who are susceptible to heat.
