Showers, thunderstorms possible in Kansas City area. Here’s when they likely will arrive
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to return to the Kansas City area Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.
There is a chance that a few storms within a cluster of thunderstorms could be strong to severe with the main threats of winds up to 65 mph, hail up to the size of quarters and localized heavy rains, the weather service said.
The timing of the storms will mostly likely be between 4 and 8 p.m., according to the weather service.
The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has place Kansas City, as well as most of Kansas and parts of Oklahoma and Missouri, under a slight risk of severe thunderstorms.
Under that category which is designated by the color yellow, scattered severe storms are possible. The storms are expected to be short-lived and/or not widespread. Isolated intense storms are possible, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
Hot weather in Kansas City
It will be another hot day in Kansas City as temperatures are expected to be in the low 90s with heat index values in the upper 90s.
Conditions will continue to be slightly warmer than normal this weekend, with temperatures expected to be around 90 degrees on Saturday and 92 on Sunday. Typically, temperatures are in the upper 80s this time of year in Kansas City.
The next chance of showers and thunderstorms return Sunday evening. There is a risk for some strong storms. Chances for thunderstorms continue into next week, although details remain uncertain, the weather service said.
Heat and humidity is also expected to return Tuesday and Wednesday. Heat index values are could approach 100 to 105 degrees in some areas, the weather service said.
