Fans flocking to Arrowhead Stadium for the Kansas City stop of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour might want to prepare for a little rain Friday night — just in case.

Although the forecast is trending a bit drier than what was originally anticipated, there remains a chance for scattered showers in the metro area, said Scott Blair, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

“So it wouldn’t hurt to be prepared and bring a light rain jacket just in case one of those scattered showers does happen to drift across parts of Kansas City,” Blair said.

But when it comes to the temperatures, the superstar’s concert couldn’t be happening at a better time. Conditions will be a bit cooler outside compared to earlier in the week which saw some really hot temperatures, he said.

Temperatures are expected to climb to about 83 degrees on Friday, so there will not be any type of oppressive heat, he said. Calling Friday’s forecast a little tricky, Blair said the predictability of rain is a little bit challenging.

The early and mid-afternoon hours should be dry as fans start arriving at the stadium. When gates open, temperatures should still be in the lower 80s.

“Once we get into the early evening hours, that’s going to be kind of the window that we’ll have to keep an eye out for any potential scattered showers that try to develop,” he said.

Although it’s difficult to nail down a specific hour, there’s a chance for some scattered showers, maybe a rumple of thunder, between 6 and 10 p.m.

“The good news is it doesn’t look like it would be something like an all day rain event or a total wash out for hours and hours,” Blair said. “It’s more along the lines of if one of these type of showers moves over, perhaps it rains for 20 or 30 minutes before things kind of scoot along and then things dry out.”

The threat of severe weather is low. The main threat of any severe storm that does develop would be cloud to ground lightning, he said. By the time the concert ends, temperatures should be in the lower 70s.

For the show on Saturday, conditions are expected to be dry with pleasant temperatures in the low 80s in the afternoon. By the time the concert ends, temperatures will be around 70 degrees.

“If their personal comfort gets cool with temperatures near 70, they might want to consider bringing a light jacket,” Blair said.
