Hot, humid weather likely for Juneteenth holiday weekend in KC. When will storms arrive?
Hot and humid conditions are expected to continue Friday in the Kansas City area as chances for strong to severe storms loom for the Juneteenth holiday weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Slightly above normal temperatures are expected headed into the weekend, climbing into the upper 80s to lower 90s on both Friday and Saturday, according to the weather service. Typically, temperatures are in the mid-80s this time of year in Kansas City.
Isolated thunderstorms could develop Friday afternoon in southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri. The storms, however, are expected to stay south of the immediate metropolitan area. There is also a chance for rain overnight in northwest Missouri, according to the weather service.
There are better chances for rain showers and thunderstorms in the Kansas City area on Saturday afternoon and evening. A few of the storms may be strong to severe Saturday afternoon. The main threat from the stronger storms that develop are damaging winds and hail, the weather service said.
The chance for thunderstorms continue into Father’s Day, which will help keep temperatures a bit cooler. Conditions will be in the lower to mid-80s Sunday afternoon. Skies will be mostly clear overnight.
Sunny skies along with dry and hot conditions are expected to return for the Juneteenth holiday. Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb to around 90 degrees.
Conditions will continue to be dry and hot for much of next week, with temperatures around 90 degrees. For the extended outlook, above normal temperatures and near normal precipitation are likely for late June, according to the weather service.
