Cool, damp day likely in KC area as heavy downpours possible from lingering thunderstorms
A cool and damp day will kick off the work week in the Kansas City area as scattered showers and thunderstorms will linger through sunset on Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.
While no severe weather is expected, a few stronger storms might produce small hail and gusty winds. Some heavy downpours are also possible, the weather service said on Twitter.
Drivers were being urged to use caution on their morning trips because fog and mist were reducing visibility.
The temperature was 67 degrees shortly before 1 a.m. at Kansas City International Airport, which will likely be the warmest part of Monday. Since then, temperatures have slowly dipped into the lower 60s. Temps typically are in the mid-70s this time of year in Kansas City.
Sunshine and warmer conditions return on Tuesday. Quiet weather also returns for a few days, with the next chance for rain coming on Thursday night into Friday, according to the weather service.
For those already looking forward to the weekend, a drier air mass is expected to settle into the region, with temperatures on Saturday being a bit below normal and warmer, but not humid, conditions likely on Sunday, according to the weather service.
