Thunderstorms expected this week in KC, including chance for straight-line winds
Several rounds of rain showers and thunderstorms will be possible for the remainder of the work week and into the weekend in Kansas City, according to the National Weather Service.
The active weather pattern could create strong to severe storms with the main threats being large hail and damaging winds. Strong straight-line winds also are possible with storms late Thursday night, according to the weather service.
Thunderstorms and isolated strong storms are possible Tuesday in the Kansas City area. Severe weather is not expected in the metro, although a few stronger storms may develop over east-central Kansas and west-central Missouri in the afternoon and evening.
The main threat from the stronger storms are quarter-sized hail and wind gusts of up to 60 mph.
Scattered storms are expected to continue into Wednesday. Severe weather is not expected, although a few stronger storms cannot be ruled out, according to the weather service.
Another round of storms are possible on Thursday. A cluster of storms is expected to approach the Kansas City area from the west late Thursday, which will have the potential of producing strong straight-line winds.
The Kansas City area will be under a slight risk of severe weather Thursday, according to the Storm Prediction Center. Under that risk level, scattered severe storms are possible.
The chance for showers continue on Friday and into the weekend, according to the weather service.
