What’s the weather for NFL Draft in KC? Round 1 looks clear, but rain could come Friday

The first day of the NFL Draft 2023 is shaping up to be an ideal day as temperatures are expected to be near normal for this time of year in Kansas City, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain is falling south of Kansas City early Thursday. While the metro area has a chance for rain, it is expected to remain primarily south of the Interstate 70 corridor, according to the weather service. Any rain that does fall in the metro is expected to be light with minor amounts.

Temperatures in the Kansas City area are expected to climb to the mid-60s, which is just a few degrees shy of what is typical for this time of year.

Fans headed to the draft at Union Station may want to make sure they pack hats and sunscreen as the skies will be partly sunny this afternoon. Winds will be light.

The forecast for Friday is similar when it comes to temperatures, which are expected to be just shy of 70 degrees. Partly sunny skies are also expected, according to the weather service. Winds will again be light.

However, better chances for widespread rain moves into the Kansas City area Friday evening into Saturday morning as a cold front passes through the area. Light rain is expected. While no severe weather is anticipated, isolated thunderstorms could develop, according to the weather service.

Rain should come to an end Saturday morning. While temperatures should warm to near 70 degrees again under sunny skies, winds will increase to around 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph possible Saturday. A secondary cold front is expected to pass through the area in the afternoon and evening, bringing cooler conditions.

While dry weather is expected, the weather service said in its forecast discussion that it “wouldn’t be surprised if there are a few light showers Saturday evening.”

Conditions will be gusty and cooler on Sunday, with temperatures in the low 60s and winds of 20 to 25 mph, gusting as high as 35 mph.
