People headed out to work, school or other activities should prepare for the possibility of getting drenched as a cold rain, heavy at times, moves through the Kansas City area during Friday morning’s rush hour.

The rain, which could also mix with snow, is expected to continue to fall in the metro through the morning, eventually coming to an end by early afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

While some snowflakes may develop as morning temperatures continue to slowly drop, no accumulating snow is expected, the weather service said. Gusty winds of 25 to 35 mph will also calm down Friday afternoon.

Once the rain ends, the skies will clear and temperatures will rise into the mid-40s to mid-50s under mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.

The warm up continues into the weekend, with conditions in the upper 50s on Saturday and around 70 on Sunday. Both days are expected to be partly to mostly sunny.

The next chance for rain will come Tuesday. There is also chance for wintry precipitation Thursday night into Friday, according to the weather service.
