Wind advisory issued in Kansas City; power outages possible, says weather service
The Kansas City metro is under a wind advisory beginning Sunday evening and lasting through Monday afternoon.
The advisory begins at 10 p.m. Sunday and runs through noon Monday as winds from the southwest traveling at 20 to 30 miles per hour head toward the metro, according to the National Weather Service.
Gusts up to 50 miles per hour are likely.
The weather service advisory warns that “gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.”
Kansas Citians are urged to secure any outdoor objects that could blow around.
The storm is expected to move into the metro around 10 p.m., with rain and severe weather possible “mainly along and south of Highway 36,” the weather service wrote on Twitter at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
A number of tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued early Sunday evening near Dodge City, about 300 miles west of Kansas City, as the storm system first moved eastward.
Wind gusts measuring up to 70 miles per hour have been recorded in western Kansas, with some power outages reported due to downed power lines.
