A winter storm is ongoing and will continue Thursday throughout the Kansas City region, according to the National Weather Service.

In Kansas City, the morning commute is expected to be impacted by icy roads before snow begins about noon. The Kansas City area is expected to receive a light glaze of ice and less than an inch of snow.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m. Thursday, the weather service said in a message posted to Twitter that most roads in the KC metro were wet and drivers should beware of ice on elevated surfaces.

“Intermittent freezing drizzle will continue this morning across the KC metro before changeover to light snow around noon,” the weather service said.

The Missouri Department of Transportation’s Kansas City office posted a message saying drivers can check the latest road conditions online.

Snow is expected across northern Missouri and northeastern Kansas, where totals may reach 3 to 5 inches.

Further south, a wintry mix is expected before transitioning to light snow this afternoon.

Snow will end from west to east by this evening.
