Rain spread across the Kansas City area during Wednesday morning’s rush hour, making it a soggy commute for some, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

While the metro area will likely only see rain on Wednesday, those in parts of northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri are under a weather advisory until noon. A wintry mix of precipitation is expected, including snow along with a light glazing of ice.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the weather service said. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.”

The snow, however, is expected to remain north of the U.S. 36 highway corridor, which cuts across northern Missouri. The wintry mix is expected to transition to all rain by noon.

The rain will transition back to snow this evening. While snow accumulations are expected to be minor overnight, light icing is also possible, the weather service said.

Rain in the Kansas City area is expected to continue through midday and gradually taper off in the afternoon. Any remaining rain in the evening could briefly transition to snow after midnight, although little to no accumulations are expected, according to the weather service.

A quick moving storm system is expected to cut across the region this weekend, bringing the chance of rain and light snow Saturday into Sunday morning, according to the weather service.
