The coldest day of the week still lies ahead for the Kansas City metro area but those who hate the frigid temperatures shouldn’t despair — warmer conditions are on the way.

Temperatures are expected to warm only into the upper 30s Thursday, well below normal for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City. Conditions are typically in the low to mid-50s this time of year.

Overnight, temperatures will tumble into the upper teens, with wind chills making it feel more like the single digits.

Friday will be the coldest day of the week, with temperatures rebounding only to the upper 20s. The unseasonably cold weather will linger through the weekend, reaching only the mid-30s on Saturday and the mid-40s on Sunday. Overnight conditions will be in the teens, according to the weather service.

Snow flurries, most likely south of Interstate 70, are possible at times through the end of the week, but no accumulating snow is expected.

Warmer temperatures return Thanksgiving week, with temperatures climbing back into the 50s on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
