Thunderstorms, more rain in forecast for Kansas City Monday night and through the week
Storms and thunderstorms are expected bring cooler temperatures and much needed rain to the Kansas City area this week, giving the metro a break from the extreme heat and drought conditions, according to the National Weather Service.
“Good News!” the National Weather Service in Kansas City proclaimed on Twitter. “Rain and ‘cooler’ temps expected this week. A welcome break after switching weather with the desert southwest.”
The rain was expected to continue to fall Monday morning in the Kansas City area, gradually lifting north of the Missouri River by the afternoon.
A few strong thunderstorms were possible late in the afternoon or early evening. The main impact will be strong wind gusts of 60 mph, although a brief tornado could not be ruled out a few hours before sunset at 8:36 p.m. in Kansas City, according to the weather service.
Chances of rain continue Tuesday morning, with the possibility for even more rain and thunderstorms every day through Friday, the weather service said. The stormy weather will bring much cooler temperatures, which will range in the low to upper 80s this week.
Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain is expected to fall in the Kansas City area through Wednesday. Abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions exist along and south of Interstate 70 corridor.
