Thousands of customers without power after severe storms sweep across Kansas City area
Several thousand residents were without power Wednesday morning after strong and severe storms rolled through the Kansas City area, according to outage maps by local energy companies.
One of the hardest hit areas was along Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas, where the Board of Public Utilities was reporting that 1,800 customers were without power.
The area without electricity was roughly bounded by North 13th Street to the east, State Avenue to the south, North 30rd Street to the west and Quindaro Boulevard to the north.
The power went out about 10:40 p.m., according to the BPU’s website. The Kansas City area was under a severe thunderstorm warning at the time. No estimated time was provided as to when power would be restored.
Meanwhile, Evergy was reporting outages were affecting 1,857 customers in Jackson County and 1,1618 customers in Johnson County. There were 224 customers without power in Clay County and 23 customers without electricity in Platte County.
The National Weather Service in Kansas City said on Twitter that the severe weather threat had wound down shortly after midnight, but showers and thunderstorms continued overnight.
