Drastic warm up on its way as temperatures in the 90s expected next week in Kansas City
The recent cool and rainy weather in Kansas City will come to an end next week as the area quickly transitions to summer-like temperatures, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.
It’s the first time the city will see temperatures in the 90s in 2022, said Spencer Mell, a meteorologist with the weather service.
Temperatures from Monday to Thursday will be in the 90s and could reach as high as 93 degrees on Tuesday, according to a tweet from the weather service. There is a chance the record for the area’s high temperature could be broken.
“Normally daily high temperatures for mid-May are generally in the lower to mid 70s,” the weather service said in a tweet.
The 90 degree mark will be 15 to 20 degrees above normal. Mell said Kansas City doesn’t see such high temperatures until around May 27. The earliest date the city hit 90 degrees was March 21, 1907.
Temperatures this week in Kansas City have been in the 60s as several showers have moved across the area.
