EF-1 tornado strikes St. Joseph, Missouri; Roof damage reported at East Hills Mall

A tornado touched down in eastern St. Joseph, Missouri, as severe thunderstorms swept through the area overnight, a National Weather Service survey team confirmed Wednesday.

The EF-1 tornado had winds up to 90 mph and a path 3/10th of a mile long, according to the survey team.

A tornado warning was issued for St. Joseph around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Roof damage was reported at the East Hills Mall and a couple homes, according to preliminary storm reports from the weather service. A church also had a glass window blown out, according to an emergency manager. Multiple tree and limb damage was also reported across parts of the city.

It was uncertain whether that damage was caused by the tornado or the winds from the severe storms.
