Large snowflakes were mixing in with a cold rain early Wednesday in the Kansas City area making roads slick in some spots for the morning commute, according to the National Weather Service.

“We are seeing some locations across the metro (especially on the Ks side) starting to mix with snow this morning,” the weather service said on Twitter. “This will be short lived, as temps rise into the 40s after sunrise. Accumulations are unlikely.”

Off-and-on rain showers are expected to continue into Thursday morning with an additional half inch of rain possible. Nearly 1 1/2 inches of rain has already fallen at Kansas City International Airport since Monday.

Temperatures are expected to reach only into the 40s on Wednesday and Thursday.

There will be another chance for some wet snow or a rain and snow mix Wednesday night into Thursday morning, especially in northern and central Missouri.

The sun will reappear on Friday with temperatures returning to normal as they climb to near 60 degrees. Temperatures in the 50s and near 60 are expected this weekend with even warmer conditions expected at the start of next week. Temperatures could reach into the 70s on Monday and Tuesday.
