Strong to severe thunderstorms threaten hail, damaging winds in Kansas City this week
The week will get off to a wet start in Kansas City as showers and maybe even some strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to bring up to two inches of rain to the metro by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain is expected to move into the area Monday afternoon and become more widespread overnight, the weather service said.
By mid-morning Monday, storms could be seen approaching the city on weather radar.
A break from the rain will be possible Tuesday morning, but additional showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon and linger into the evening, the weather service said.
Some of the thunderstorms could become strong to severe, with hail and strong winds being the primary threat, according to the weather service. A brief isolated tornado, however, cannot be ruled out.
The timing for the stronger storm is expected to be between 1 and 8 p.m. The most likely area for mini-supercell thunderstorm activity is in the southeastern two-thirds of the Kansas City forecast area, roughly east of Interstate 35, according to the weather service.
