These Kansas City school districts cancel classes for a second day after winter storm

Some Kansas City area students will get a second snow day on Friday, after a winter storm on Thursday dumped inches of snow in some parts of the metro during the day and picked up again after nightfall.

Many area districts either canceled classes entirely or pivoted to remote learning on Thursday in anticipation of the snow, which caused some early-morning traffic problems and flight cancellations. On Thursday night, as the snow picked up again, the National Weather Service said snowfall totals could creep up a few more inches by Friday morning.

The storm might be coming to a close, but some districts are still proceeding with caution for Friday. The extra day off will give students an even longer holiday as many prepare for spring break next week.

Here are the districts that have announced closures:

Blue Springs

School is canceled.

Center 58

All school buildings will be closed. Classes will be held virtually.

Grain Valley

Virtual classes will be held.

Hickman Mills

School is canceled for a snow day.

Holden

School is canceled.

Independence

Schools are closed.

Kansas City Public Schools

School is canceled.

North Kansas City

Virtual classes will be held.

Park Hill

School is canceled.

Pleasant Hill

Virtual classes will be held.

Raytown

School is canceled.

Sedalia

Schools are closed.
