Another winter storm will pass through the area. How much snow will Kansas City get?
Another blast of winter will likely disappoint those who hoped that the unseasonably warm conditions at the beginning of the week in Kansas City were a hint of an early spring.
Temperatures, however, have fallen for 38 straight hours in the Kansas City metro, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City. Weather conditions went from near 70 degrees on Monday to 4 degrees shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday. Sub zero wind chills made it feel much colder.
Temperatures will rebound slightly to the mid-20s with wind chills climbing above zero during the afternoon, the weather service said.
A storm system is expected to move through the region, bringing the chance for another Thursday snow in the Kansas City area. This time, however, snow will be light.
“Overall snowfall accumulations will be on the light side with the higher amounts of up to an inch or two,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion. “Most locations, especially across eastern Kansas and far western Missouri may see anywhere from a few tenths of an inch up to about an inch.”
Slightly heavier snowfall is expected in central and northeastern Missouri.
The snow will move into the Kansas City area from the south, starting between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. for areas along and south of Interstate 70. Snow is expected to start falling between 9 a.m. and noon across areas north of I-70. The snow is expected to come to an end Thursday evening, according to the weather service.
Drivers should use caution when traveling in the storm, the weather service said.
Sub-freezing temperatures are expected to continue through Friday before a weekend warm up that will see conditions in the 40s on Saturday and around 50 on Sunday.
