Strong cold front with blast of Arctic air to send Kansas City’s temperatures tumbling

Get out and enjoy the unseasonably warm weather on Tuesday because a big change is coming to the metro area, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

A strong cold front is expected to push through the Kansas City area later in the day bringing some of the coldest temperatures of this winter season, the weather service said on Twitter.

Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-50s on Tuesday and then turn around and barely reach the mid-teens on Thursday. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the single digits Wednesday and Thursday. Wind chills are expected to fall into the single digits on Wednesday and remain near zero degrees through Friday.

The arctic blast comes at a time that is typically the coldest part of the winter season for Kansas City. Between Jan. 10 and 23, the average high temperature is 38 degrees with the average low 19 degrees, according to the weather service.

Temperatures will begin to rebound Friday, warming into the 20s to lower 30s. By Sunday, temperatures are expected to climb into the 30s to lower 40s, according to the weather service’s forecast discussion.

Another blast of arctic air is expected by the middle of next week.
