Temperatures to soar in Kansas City this week; here’s how warm it will get
Kansas City will get a brief break from winter as temperatures begin a warm up that will send them to levels that are more typical of mid-March rather than mid-January later this week, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.
After a cold start to the day with wind chills in the single digits at Kansas City International Airport, temperatures will climb to around 40 degrees in metro area Monday. That’s slightly above what is the normal temperature — 38 degrees — for this time of year in Kansas City.
A big warm up, however, will come Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, sending temperatures about 20 degrees above normal. Temperatures are expected to range in the lower to upper 50s and are closer to what Kansas City typically sees in March.
For some, the warmer weather will be a welcome to what has been a cold start to the New Year. So far this month, the average temperature has been 22.1 degrees, which just a little more than 7 degrees below the normal.
Along with the warmer weather, a quiet and dry weather pattern settles across the metro for most of the week. That pattern, however, will shift on Friday.
While there is uncertainty in the forecast, there’s a chance for precipitation on Friday and Saturday morning with another shot of cold air on Saturday. Whether that precipitation is in the form of rain or snow remains uncertain at this time, the weather service said in its forecast discussion.
