Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Kansas City as powerful wind gusts, hail expected

The National Weather Service in Kansas City issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Kansas City as a line of storms moved east toward the area.

The line of of storms is expected to roll through Kansas City around 5 p.m. and the warning is in effect until 7 p.m.

The weather service said in a tweet that marble-sized hail, wind gusts of up to 70 MPH and lightning is possible.

All day, Kansas City has seen howling winds with damaging gusts. Western Kansas saw schools and roads closed as strong winds have created a “wall of dust.”

Earlier today, the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma issued a tornado watch for parts of the Midwest, including areas north of the Kansas City metro.
