How many rounds of rain can you expect to sweep through Kansas City area this week?
Widespread rain continues to fall across the Kansas City area during the morning rush hour Monday, kicking off what may be a wet week in the metro, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.
Three rounds of rain are expected to bring several inches of rain and some isolated and low impact flooding, with the first wave already moving through the area. Showers and thunderstorms are expected through Monday before coming to an end during the afternoon.
Drivers headed into work can expected heavy rainfall, lightning and gusty northeast winds between 25 and 40 mph during their morning commute, the weather service said on Twitter.
“Please use caution during your morning commute,” the weather service urged.
Kansas City will likely see its streak of consecutive days of above normal temperatures come to an end Monday. During that stretch , which ran between Sept. 26 and Sunday, temperatures have been 9.2 degrees above normal.
The normal maximum temperature for Monday is 69 degrees, with a normal minimum of 48 degrees. Temperatures on Monday are expected to be in the low to mid-60s, according to the weather service.
After the rain moves out of the Kansas City, there will be a lull in action for the rest of Monday and most of Tuesday.
The second round of rain, however, is expected to come through overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Some of the thunderstorms could be strong, bringing gusty winds and heavy rainfall, according to the weather service.
The last round of rain will move through the metro area Thursday and Friday. Dry, cool weather is expected for the weekend.
