Moderate air quality forecast for Thursday as wildfire smoke lingers over Kansas City
Hazy skies remain in Kansas City’s forecast as smoke from wildfires out west continues drifting east, according to FOX4 meteorologist Michelle Bogowith.
“We continue with poor air quality for the day today thanks to the wildfire smoke that continues to settle into the middle part of the country for the day today,” said Bogowith, who provides weather updates to The Star. “And I’m not really seeing anything that’s going to break this and get rid of this until we either change up the jet stream or bring in our next weather system.”
The air quality in Kansas City Thursday is set at moderate, meaning it could be harmful to some people with respiratory issues, she said.
For those who do plan on enjoying the clear sky Thursday, the high temperatures will be in the mid-70s.
“So much cooler than the day yesterday,” Bogowith said. “We’ve seen about a 10 degree drop behind that cold front and we’ll continue to watch that cooler air settle in for the end of the workweek, start of the upcoming weekend, with more seasonable conditions returning by Sunday.”
The high temperatures will stay in the 70s through Sunday, before the weather warms up slightly, into the 80s, come next week.
No rain is in the forecast through at least the next seven days.
