Smoke from western wildfires filters into Kansas City skies, limiting temps to low 80s
Smoke from the wildfires in the western part of the United States will limit temperatures in the Kansas City area to around 80 degrees Wednesday, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.
“We have another day with pretty nice conditions on tap,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “We will have a little bit of smoke, which will filter out our skies a little bit. So there are some spots that will not make it into the lower 80s because of the extra smoke.”
Those that do see a little more sunshine will make it into low 80s in the afternoon, she said.
“The smoke is going to continue to filter in,” Ritter said. “It is pretty wide spread and really bad in the western part of the country. That is funneling down toward us.”
That will leave Kansas City with less than ideal air quality, she said.
“We are in the ‘moderate’ (air quality) category for today,” Ritter said.
Those with breathing conditions like asthma may want to limit their outdoor exposure, especially later this afternoon, she said.
In the long range forecast, a cold front arrives Thursday leading to cooler temperatures with highs reaching the mid-70s through the weekend. Highs return to the 80s on Monday.
